As you know the structure of the dust is not as simple as you used to think. Let’s have a closer look at some of the components.
Firstly we’ll study the dust molds. They often can be found in the house dust.
As a rule molds are found outdoors. Though, under certain conditions your house can become a comfortable dwelling for the molds. This problem can be invisible for you (you don’t see their growing on the walls) but they are still present in your house.
What are the conditions for them to grow inside your house? Firstly, they need moisture (sufficient relative humidity is above 50 percent). To prevent increasing of the humidity you should pay attention to all the sources of water, especially to leaking pipes or foundations. Secondly, molds need something to grow on. They will grow virtually on any surfaces, if given a chance. Particularly they like to grow on wallboard, wood, or fabrics.
Molds produce spores. They become airborne and spread to house dust. There they grow. If such dust is inhaled by the mold-sensitive person, the allergic reaction occurs.
A couple of words abut cockroaches. Some houses do have dust that contains parts of cockroaches. These particles are common for old houses or big apartment blocks where complete extermination of cockroaches is very difficult. If you suffer from allergies or asthma you should be very careful while paying visits to such houses, as the symptoms tend to be increased when you go into such houses. Cockroaches require food and moisture to survive, so eliminating these two things can help reduce exposure.
Pets and Dust
Another component of house dust is animal dander. The dander can be collected in the animals’ fur or feathers and then it can cause sever allergic reactions. If you yourself don’t suffer from the pet allergy (this is allergy to cats, dogs, birds, rodents or other household pets), mind that lots of people who come in contact with your pet get allergic reactions. If you don’t imagine your life without pets try to control the allergens that are placed on your pet. The most powerful safety measure is washing. It will do well both for you and for your pet and for the surrounding people who suffer from allergy attacks. The regular (once a week) washing destroys all the mites’ droppings and other allergens.
