| What Exactly Causes Allergy? | Specific proteins (known as allergens) found in the pet’s dander, skin flakes, saliva and urine cause the body’s reaction and provoke allergic symptoms. The tiny dander particles on the pets are very sticky. They stick to your body, your clothes, the carpets and furnishings in your house. These tiny particles are also carried through the air and into your nose and eyes. After coming into your body they become irritants and cause the allergy signs and symptoms, such as a runny nose, watery eyes and others. Some animals have less dander than the others (for example male cats have less dander than female cats) – though t doesn’t influence on the allergy symptoms. Some people who suffer from allergies can tolerate wire-haired dogs. But if you are allergic to a cat or a dog it means none them are completely safe for you.
If you suffer from allergies the best pets for you are those that don’t have fur and don’t produce the skin dander (for example the tropical fishes). The local vet can help you to learn about animals that are more or less safe for you.
An often mistake is the belief that shorthaired animals cause fewer problems. As it was mentioned above it is the dander (skin scales) that causes the most significant allergic reactions - not the length or amount of hair on the pet. Though the animal fur is not considered to be a very significant allergen it is not safe either. It can become dangerous after the contact with the nature. The hair or fur can collect pollen, dust, mold and other allergens when you take your dog for a walk. And these substances – not the hair itself cause the allergy.
There is a big possibility to get the pet allergy due to the birds’ feathers and droppings. Those who suffer from the pet allergy should not have feather pillows or you are advised to encase the feather pillows in plastic to prevent exposing. Common allergens also include bird droppings as they are a source of bacteria, dust, fungi and mold.
Pet allergy can be stimulated by other allergens such as dust, pollen, smoke and others. It means if you suffer from pet allergy you are advised to avoid the mentioned things. It can be explained by the correlation of the different types of allergies. One type of allergy can stimulate the other ones.
